Sudan Democracy Fellowship (Second Cohort)

The Democracy Fellowship in Sudan is an eight-month research program aimed at equipping young Sudanese in the public sphere with the skills and knowledge necessary to produce evidence-based research writings. The fellowship is divided into two phases. In The first phase Participants will undergo intensive training in research methodologies, public policy writing, and advocacy. This phase also includes online lectures, funding for writing academic papers, and receiving feedback from specialists to improve participants' analytical and writing skills. In The second phase A selected group of participants will focus on writing academic research papers and policy briefs. Participants will have the opportunity to apply for small grants of up to $3,000. These grants will support the production and publication of evidence-based work aimed at influencing the international discourse on democracy and peace in Sudan.

This fellowship is a unique opportunity for young Sudanese to develop their research skills, craft impactful narratives, and contribute to global advocacy for the future of Sudan.


Program Structure

The fellowship consists of two main phases:

**Phase One: Online Training** 

The first phase of the fellowship is an intensive online training program. It lasts for two months.This phase is designed to provide participants with a fundamental understanding of topics related to peace and democracy in Sudan. It will include online lectures and seminars on topics such as democracy studies and armed conflict studies. which provides a theoretical background in these important areas. In addition to these sessions, there will be workshops on research methodologies, public policy writing, and advocacy. To ensure participants acquire practical skills that can be directly applied to real-world situations, they will be required to read academic papers related to the course topics and complete four essays demonstrating their understanding of the content. Throughout this phase, participants will receive reviews and guidance to improve their writing skills and deepen their understanding of the course material. The expected time commitment for this phase is approximately 20 hours per week.

**Phase Two: Scientific Research** 

After completing the first phase, a select group of participants will be chosen based on their performance in the previous phase to move on to the second phase, which is the research phase, that... It lasts for 6 months.This phase focuses on independent research, where participants apply the skills and knowledge they gained during the training phase. Based on their performance, fellows will have the opportunity to apply for small grants of up to $3,000 to support their research. These grants are designed to help fellows produce high-quality, evidence-based writings that contribute to the ongoing discourse on peace and democratic development in Sudan. During the research phase, fellows will receive continuous supervision and guidance to ensure the quality of their research and assist in improving their publications. Participants will also be required to read relevant academic papers, engage in discussions with their peers, and contribute to building a vibrant academic community. 

This phase provides fellows with the opportunity to develop their expertise in academic research, public policy, and advocacy, enabling them to influence global narratives about the future of Sudan.
